Today, it is one of the spots to see and be seen - towering above the Chao Phraya River with stunning views across the City of Angels (and sinners).
Bangkok’s latest rooftop playground has just opened on the 26th floor of the Avani and it is sounds like hipster heaven.
SEEN Restaurant and Bar combines those glittering views with Portuguese-accent food, cocktails and "chilled beats".
The menu is put together by executive chef Alexandre Castaldi and includes dishes ranging from hand-rolled, black truffle-infused sushi, to lobster salad and rib-eye steak with chimichurri sauce.
Award-winning head mixologist Mochammad Fadli curates a wide range of cocktails, wines and Champagnes, while the music is spun by a roster of jet-setting DJs selected by Music Director, Scotty B (what a pity he couldn't manage a surname).
Non-hotel guests are advised to arrive at sunset to catch Chao Phraya views from plush day beds.
Originating in Sao Paolo then Lisbon, SEEN Bangkok is the third SEEN Restaurant & Bar from Portuguese celebrity chef, Olivier da Costa.
For events and functions, a private 27th floor sky bar is accessed by a private glass lift. The iconic Avani Bangkok rooftop infinity pool (above) also plays hosts to stylish pool parties.
SEEN is open daily 6pm-1am. See seenrooftopbangkok.com
