Arequipa: the Paris of Peru

Arequipa, the second city in Peru behind Lima, is often overlooked in favour of more tourist-oriented destinations like Cusco and Puno, gateway to Lake Titicaca.

That's a huge pity as Arequipa is a wonderfully cosmopolitan and elegant city reminiscent of the finest cities of Europe.

There are superb squares and alleyways with influences of Spain and Paris, excellent eateries and magnificent viewpoints.

There will be a full report on Arequipa over the next month or so, but here are some images to whet your travel appetite.
