A most convenient address in Bangkok

There are few cities where the location of your hotel is as important as it is in Bangkok.

The Thai capital is a big sprawling city where traffic comes to a standstill when it rains - and public transport (other than the Skytrain) can be wildly unreliable.

That's why the 407-room four-star Rembrandt Hotel, which is currently celebrating its 23rd birthday, is worth noting.

Not only does it offer reliably good four-star accommodation at reasonable prices, it is also brilliantly situated just off Sukhumvit Road, one of Bangkok's main thoroughfares.

That puts it close to many tourism and business destinations, city landmarks and many nightlife destinations.

Guests also have the benefit of Skytrain (BTS Asoke Station) and metro (MRT Sukhumvit Station) within a five-minute walk.

There is a complimentary 24-hour "tuk-tuk" shuttle service to the main road.

“The response from staff and guests to our anniversary has been heartwarming,” says Eric Hallin, the general manager. “Many of our guests consider the Rembrandt as their second home, having made multiple visits to the hotel and its internationally recognized restaurants during the past 20 years.

"Our success continues based on the work of our hotel team, who remain truly motivated to provide world-class service.”

In addition to comfortable rooms and its excellent position, the Rembrandt is also home to the unexpected; two of Bangkok's finest restaurants.

And in a city where Thai eateries are the norm, the Rembrandt offers Indian and Mexican cuisine in its flagships.

The hotel's Mexicano (above) and Rang Mahal restaurants have been recognized in the prestigious Thai Tatler’s Best Restaurants 2016 list - and I ate extremely well (and drank some delicious sangria) when I stayed a couple of months ago.

The food is under the direction of Mexican chef Carlos Bravo and there is a great range of authentic dishes complemented with heady hand-shaken margaritas and 60 premium tequilas.

The house-made guacamole is a specialty at Mexicano, which also features live Latin American music.

Rang Mahal, located on the 26th floor, offers a menu  featuring Mughlai curries and meat and fish tandoori dishes prepared in traditional tandoor ovens.

The hotel’s facilities also include a large swimming pool and bar on the fourth floor, as well as a spa, opened in 2010 with over 50 different spa and massage treatments.

There are currently some special packages marking the hotel's birthday - and there is free reliable wifi. Rooms online start from under $100 a night.
