It's a long way to Birdsville from just about anywhere in Australia - but the journey will be worth it for lovers of classic Aussie rock and country music.
Jimmy Barnes and Paul Kelly head the line-up for the Birdsville Big Red Bash to be held from July 4-6 in the Simpson Desert, Queensland.
With support acts including Troy Cassar-Daley, The Angels and Adam Brand and the Outlaws, the line-up for the fourth Bash looks set to pull in a massive crowd - but they'll have to be prepared to rough it once they make the Red Centre.
With the magnificent Big Red sand dune as the stage backdrop, organisers are expecting over 6,000 people to attend the two-day three-night festival - but concert-goers need to first get to the middle of nowhere, and then be prepared to camp in the bush once they get there.
The full-line up of talent features Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Troy Cassar-Daley, The Angels, Adam Brand and the Outlaws, Adam Harvey, Russell Morris, Shane Howard, Christine Anu and Col Finley, with Glen Shorrock and Brian Cadd lined up for the opening night and Wilbur Wilde as MCs.
Barnes will perform on the final night as the main drawcard.
“Performing at the Big Red Bash was unlike anything I had ever experienced before," the former Cold Chisel frontman said of last year's event. "Playing in the outback with the Big Red dune behind me was truly remarkable and I am excited to be able to take the stage for the second time."
Paul Kelly, acknowledged as one of Australia’s best ever singer-songwriters, is looking forward to venturing to the legendary Big Red dune for the first time.
“Everyone I know who's been to the Bash says it's a great event," he said. "It'll be my first trip to Birdsville and I'm really looking forward to it. I hope the pub doesn't run out of beer.”
Birdsville is one of Australia’s most iconic outback towns, perched on the edge of the vast Simpson and Sturt Stony deserts and the famous Channel Country. Despite its isolation it has been named Queensland’s friendliest town and its famous pub is noted for true outback hospitality.
